Protection from Fire and All Adversity

A person may carry these words written on brown paper, so that no one may assail him, nor that he be injured in a fire.

SHADRACH MESHACH ABENDNEGO

Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him. For he hath redeemed the faithful from death and kept them from the fiery furnace.

May the LORD, God Almighty, preserve us from fire and from all adversities. Amen.

This item of protection was probably blessed by rubbing peanut oil, or another oil, on the edges of the paper. It was quite likely bound in a mojo bag, over which Psalm 148 was recited.
Praise ye the LORD. Praise ye the LORD from the heavens: praise him in the heights. Praise ye him, all his angels: praise ye him, all his hosts. Praise ye him, sun and moon: praise him, all ye stars of light. Praise him, ye heavens of heavens, and ye waters that be above the heavens. Let them praise the name of the LORD: for he commanded, and they were created. He hath also stablished them for ever and ever: he hath made a decree which shall not pass. Praise the LORD from the earth, ye dragons, and all deeps: Fire, and hail; snow, and vapours; stormy wind fulfilling his word: Mountains, and all hills; fruitful trees, and all cedars: Beasts, and all cattle; creeping things, and flying fowl: Kings of the earth, and all people; princes, and all judges of the earth: Both young men, and maidens; old men, and children: Let them praise the name of the LORD: for his name alone is excellent; his glory is above the earth and heaven. He also exalteth the horn of his people, the praise of all his saints; even of the children of Israel, a people near unto him. Praise ye the LORD. (Psalm 148)
Psalm 148 and 149 are traditionally credited with the ability to provide safety fron fire.

I remember a lot of references in the South to the "Hebrew children in the firey furnace," "Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego," and "Daniel in the lion's den" as they were all slaves in Babylon in the household of Nebuchadnezzar the king.

Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace, and spake, and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, ye servants of the most high God, come forth, and come hither. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, came forth of the midst of the fire. And the princes, governors, and captains, and the king's counsellors, being gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was an hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had passed on them. Then Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king's word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God. Daniel 3:26-28
Safety addition: For effective fire protection also always use caution and common sense. Be careful around open flames, such as candles. If your clothing catches on fire, stop, drop, and roll. In your home, install a smoke detector and change the battery each Halloween. You may also keep a fire extingusher in your household. Treat burns on the body by immersing the injured area in cold water immediately.
