RAQ (Rarely Asked Questions): As a Wiccan, what do I tell myself throughout the day?

RAQ: As a Wiccan, what do I tell myself throughout the day? Especially, how do I deal with Christians expressing their worries and explaining how prayers to Jesus can help us get through the day? How do I deal with people saying witches are crazy?

Sooo--as a Wiccan--what do I tell myself throughout the day? In the midst of the Pandemic, I tell myself "Keep your hands clean; wear a mask outside around people; stay away from that jerk who has his mask hanging under his chin rather than over his mouth and nose..."

Otherwise, I fall back on my teaching about generally not discussing religion with people. Seriously, my parents—who over the years of my youth attended congregations of different Christian denominations—taught me proselytizing is rude. They maintained we had freedom of religion in the USA—and everybody, and THAT WAS EVERYBODY had the right to believe in the Buddah, YHWH, Jesus, Allah, Pele, Brahma, Ganesha, or whoever. If I, or we, think it is silly that's fine—but that disrespectful thought had better NOT ever pop out of my mouth, OR I WOULD REGRET IT. (By that, they meant that I certainly CAN think whatever I wished, but never be “rude” to anyone about their beliefs—because that would "unkind." I would have been punished for being “unkind” or “rude” to anyone. Kids in the 1960’s were expected to mind their manners.)

Thus, I still don't talk to other people about me being Wiccan—except to other Wiccans and other Neo-Pagans. I admit I do enjoy chatting at Pagan gatherings and on forums like this.

Yet the truth be told, I don't give a "rat's arse" if people know about "Wicca"—or what, if anything “including Wiccans are crazy”—they do think.  Seriously, I don't bring the subject up—and neither do they.....

My Wiccan husband has this advice when these discussions come up. He tells people, "Relax, you worry too much. You're not in charge, just remember that."
