Savage Zombie
An Adult Halloween Treat

A college student in his 20’s walked into a bar. The student asked, “Hey, I want a zombie.”

The bartender answered, “Coming right up.”

The college student turned his back, and waited. Behind him, the bartender bent over out of sight behind the bar, and did not reappear.

Then the college student called, “Hey, bartender, where’s my zombie?” He yelled, while banging his fist on the bar, “I want a zombie!”

Then an undead flesh-eating zombie popped up from behind the bar, and grabbed the college student--pulling him him down, out of sight.

Savage Zombie

Ingredients:

Directions:

Stir together all these ingredients, except the 151 proof rum and pour into a 14-ounce tiki glass three-fourths full of ice. Float the 151 on top (by pouring it into a spoon and gently dipping it under the surface of the drink).  Serve with  a straw.

History:

There are many variations of the Zombie cocktail mixed in different bars and restaurants. The origin of this drink has nothing to do with Voodoo, Haiti, George Romero’s Night of the Living Dead, or Zombie walks. It was developed by Donn Beach (Ernest Raymond Beaumont-Gannt), this drink was popularized at the Don the Beachcomber restaurant in Hollywood, CA in the 1930s.

I have read that in the famous Hawaiian Room at the Emerson Hotel in Maryland severed Zombie cocktails among other Polynesian themed drinks. Alas, I never found a specific Baltimore recipe used at the Hawaiian room.

Fortunately, the Savage Zombie above does indeed hail from Maryland, as it was created by Rock Savage for his Halloween get-togethers. Obviously, this adult beverage should not be enjoyed by anyone under age 21.

Practically any ceramic Tiki style tall glass is suitable for a Savage zombie.
This photo shows four suitable glasses and a fifth glass that is definitely not.
