General Protection

One of the most popular biblical stories of the Old Testament was "Daniel in the Lions' Den." It was commonly said that Michael ("Who is like God") was the angel that saved Daniel in the lions' den. According to the bible, Daniel was taken captive with some fellow Jews from their home to serve as a slave in King Nebuchadnezzar's palace. Due to God's favor and protection, Daniel eventually served as one of the King's advisors, but his position was always precarious. It was a situation that Black people in the USA South were well familar with.

Though the king awarded Daniel honors, Daniel remained a slave and prisoner in the city of Babylon, along with the other Jews in Babylon. As a prophet of Israel, Daniel eventually prophecied Babylon's doom.

The following prayer could be written on brown paper and tied in a red bag with a piece of angelica root (Archangelica officinalis) and/or a pinch of cardamom seeds (Elettaria cardamomum) and carried for protection.

Lord, have mercy on me. I am innocent in Jesus. Daniel was delivered in the lions' den. The angel Michael came and shut the lions' mouths and locked the lions' jaws. In Jesus name, amen.
My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt. Daniel 6:22
