Angels are the Most High God's servants and will offer protection, guidance, and support. Angels assist in spiritual matters. In Christian lore, guardian angels are said to stand at the foot or head of one's bed during rest. Thus, angels can help in attaining a peaceful sleep.
If a practitioner wished to contact her/his own guardian angel, s/he should annoint a purple candle with a pure oil (olive oil, sesame seed oil, or maybe peanut oil) to set a light during prayer. Some will use a scented oil, like angelica root oil, rose oil, myrrh oil, frankincence oil, cinnamon oil, lilac oil, or even a mixture of myrrh oil and frankincence oil.
The candle might be a purple taper, purple votive, or even a purple seven day devotional candle in a glass jar. Some stores sell candles in glass jars that show the familiar image of an angel watching over two children. These guardian angel candles often come in a variety of colors.
S/he will then recite the following verses and the Lord's prayer (Matthew 6:9-19).
Psalm 91:11 "For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways."
1 John 4:2 "Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:"
1 John 4:6 "We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us."
Matthew 5:16 "Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father in heaven."
Different types of candles can be fixed in different ways.
If the purple candle was a votive or a taper a person could have also carved a cross into the wax, anoined it with the oil, and and then rolled it in powdered cinnamon.
If it was a seven day devotional candle in a glass jar the person might have drawn a cross on a piece of paper and taped the drawing onto the glass jar. In effect, that person would then be creating her/his own devotional glass jar candle, which can be as useful as anything store bought.
Actually, some claim setting a light with a white colored candle or a naturally colored beeswax candle could work just as well as any colored candle to contact one's guardian angel.
Incidentally, if someone wanted to contact the seven archangels before the throne of God, s/he might choose to set a light with a rainbow candle of seven colors. The seven archangels are mighty guardians. If someone wanted to specifically contact the archangel Gabriel, s/he ought to set a light with a blue candle. If someone wanted to specifically contact the archangel Michael, s/he ought to set a light with a red candle.
For safety reasons, candles should not be left burning unattended.
