Mexican-American Incense

Mexican Folk Magic Incense (Copal)

"Copal" is tree resin. The name "copal" indicates any of the the aromatic resins used by the cultures of pre-Columbian Mesoamerica which were ceremonially burned as incense. Copal is still used as an incense by a number of indigenous peoples of Mexico as well as Mexican-Americans.

Use as cones or sticks in suitable incense burners. It may also be burned in graulated form on lit charcoal on top of sand in a pot. Granulated copal may be either white or yellow.

Sahumeria Azteca Incense
aka Mexican Magic Incense

2 parts copal
2 parts frankincense
1 part rosemary
1 part sage
1 part lemongrass
1 part bay
1/2 part marigold
1/2 part yerba santa

Smolder on lit charcoal during Mexican-American folk magic rituals and spells--particularly when doing spirit work with those from Mexican-American folk practice. It would seem to me to be well suited to honoring Santa Muerte due to the marigold, rosemary, copal, and frankincense.

Also used by some as a general purification incense.
